Army Boots: Not Just for the Soldier

by Tactical Boot Store

Shopping for the right pair of boots for any particular purpose can sometimes be a difficult task. Having a sturdy pair of boots is in the closet is never a bad thing, and there are countless situations where simple sneakers won’t cut it. Boots are normally divided up between various categories: hiking boots, work boots, snow boots, motorcycle boots, etc. Very specific purposes often demand very specific footwear. A competitive dirt bike rider obviously can’t cut it with a pair of snow boots. However, for a versatile pair of footwear that can be used for hiking, working, hunting, and countless other activities, it is hard to find anything more flexible or practical than the standard military boots.

Military BootsFor centuries, there has been footwear specifically designed for combat. Even the ancient Greeks and Romans had special types of shoes made for going into battle. Since combat footwear was first introduced, it was made to be the most durable thing that could possibly be worn on the feet. There really is no activity that demands more from footwear than combat. These boots have to go through water, hike up mountains, survive extreme temperatures, and the whole time be as comfortable as possible.

Army boots are arguably the most important part of a modern day soldier’s uniform. No part of the uniform must go through such extreme wear and tear as the boot. Every step a soldier takes relies on this item, quite possibly making army boots the most utilized weapon in all of the armed forces. Such an important item would certainly be built with the utmost quality and durability, and this can be taken advantage of in more than just combat situations.

For example, take the typical deer hunting trip. Often such a trip involves hiking through woods, swamps, and brush. Perhaps it requires climbing up a tree or a rope into a blind to get a good angle and the landscape below. This type of excursion demands a boot that is waterproof, breathable, protective, has adequate ankle support, and allows for good mobility. While there are many types of boots specifically marketed for such activities, army boots are just as good if not better and can come at half the price. Certainly a boot designed to take the abuse of combat can suffice for a hunting trip.

Motorcyclists are also often partial to army boots. Riding a motorcycle demands a boot with high ankle protection to shield from heat, and tough soles to grip the road and protect the foot in the event of an accident. Army boots are excellent for both of these purposes, and often portray the look many bikers are after. Obviously army boots shouldn’t be used for racing, but for the typical touring motorcycle rider, these boots provide everything needed while remaining a comfortable shoe for strolling around when off the bike.

With the above information, it makes sense to consider looking at army boots when considering the purchase of a new pair of all-purpose footwear. Certainly there are many types of boots that are great for many tasks, but when looking for a boot that will generally get the job done, it’s hard to beat something that was meant to withstand the rigors of combat.
